The AAL Joint Programme is a planned new R&D initiative between 23 countries with support from the FP7 on the basis of Article 169 of the EU Treaty.

The new programme, which is expected to be adopted by Council and Parliament at the end of June 2008, will focus on support to market-oriented research on new ICT products and services for Ageing Well, and will complement longer-term R&D in FP7.

The overall budget will be a minimum of €300m in public support over the period 2008-2013 and there will be one or two calls for proposals annually.

The first call is expected to be published in April-May 2008. There will be a specific information session at the ICT conference in Lyon in November, at which the new programme and the upcoming calls for proposals will be presented.
